Read how I grow my blog and engaged my readers from the insights in the June 2018 income report for both my blogs, Aroma Mama and Blog with Stephanie.Welcome to my June 2018 income report, the third income report for Blog with Stephanie and the fifteenth blog income report for Aroma Mama!

(I have a page with links to every income report I’ve ever written, in case you’re interested.)

Let’s Be Real

I almost didn’t publish this income report for several reasons. Blogging was on the back burner in June and I wondered if you’d even be interested in reading a blog income report from someone that didn’t focus on blog posts, income, and traffic.

I didn’t market, didn’t try to get blog traffic, ignored Pinterest, didn’t write blog posts except for a couple of sponsored posts which I had committed to, and I skipped opportunities to make more income.

I’m sharing my income report with you anyway because this is the real life of a blogger. We go in and out of different seasons. Sometimes we are in full blog post content creation mode, other times we focus on social media, optimizing SEO, and when it’s time for product creation, the other stuff can go on hold so we can sprint to get a lot done in a relatively short amount of time.

What I Did in June

In June, I attended Rachel Miller’s first Moolah live event which is about growing an audience from Facebook and Stu McLaren’s Tribe Live event which is focused on building a membership site. Both were an awesome experience. Now, I am scaling things back so I can create a membership site, but this is causing me to go back to the beginning to figure out who I want to serve.

I have options. I know health and wellness topics best, but I enjoy working with women entrepreneurs the most. I’ve even thought of merging the two and helping women entrepreneurs with their business and health goals since the two are dependent on the other. It’s a matter of figuring out if anyone is interested in what I have to offer before I spend too much time on any one idea. This is where a beta launch comes in handy. And for the record, it can be incredibly difficult to try to figure this out over the summer when people are unplugged and spending more time with their family.

Aroma Mama (Launched April 4, 2017)

Aroma Mama is a health and wellness blog. I started this blog last April 2017 with no experience in blogging, marketing, graphic design, or writing. It was created after feeling a calling to help women (I have some avid men readers too) to be healthier so they can feel their best.

Here are some stats that become less important to me every day as my mission to serve people grows. I include some stats only for you to see that you don’t need a huge audience to make a positive difference for others in your online business.

I recently learned of a blog that makes at least $30K a month from having 1oK pageviews a month. That is just one example of how the value you offer is more important to dial in than monthly pageviews.

Pageviews: 3,317 (I blocked visitors from the EU for most of June while I was working on GDPR compliance and lost a significant amount of traffic)

Published Blog Posts: 2

  1.  The Best Shampoo with Botanical Oils and No Chemicals (sponsored post)
  2.  How I Use CBD Oil to Support a Healthy Lifestyle (sponsored post)

Just a quick note on sponsored posts. I love writing sponsored posts. Maybe it’s because I love the challenge of creating something and getting a quick win for it. The negative to sponsored posts is they don’t create passive income since you get paid once. Also, they don’t generate as much traffic and subscribers. If you’re going to do sponsored posts, it’s better to spread them out among your other blog posts. I didn’t do that only because I wouldn’t have written any blog posts in June if I didn’t commit to writing these sponsored posts beforehand.

Alexa Ranking: Global Rank – 3,725,330; U.S. Rank – not rated this month

Domain Authority: 22

Blog Income Earned: $607.91

  • Affiliate Marketing: $199.13
  • Sponsored: $390.00 (products and gift cards)
  • Ads: $18.78

Here’s my take on ads. If you’re trying to grow and engage a new audience it’s worth waiting to put ads on your blog. I’ve had ads on the Aroma Mama blog for a year and I’m just getting my first payout of $100 from AdSense. If I could do it all over I would have waited a year to put up ads. That is why you don’t see ads on this blog post. Some people leave blogs due to too many ads between paragraphs or a perceived block of their view.

Blog Expenses: $0

Net Income from Aroma Mama: $607.91

Blog with Stephanie (Launched April 27, 2018)

Blog with Stephanie was launched on my one year anniversary of blogging with one blog post and now there are seven. I ignored this blog in June, and instead, spent more time on my Facebook group, Women Bloggers That Promote. Facebook lives are much more fun for me than writing a blog post, and a great alternative for people to grow an audience when they don’t like to write or lack the time.

Pageviews: 592 (Again, I lost a lot of visitors from blocking EU visitors for most the month while I worked on GDPR compliance)

Published Blog Posts: 1

  1. May 2018 Income Report for Two Blogs

Alexa Ranking: Global Rank -6,223,759; U.S. Rank – not rated this month

Domain Authority: 4 (Yay, this number doubled since last month!)

Blog Income Earned: $58.80

  • Affiliate Marketing: $58.80

Blog Expenses: $0

Net Income from Blog with Stephanie: $58.80

Accountability

I had no blog expenses for both blogs, but I did pay several thousand for membership to a couple of membership sites to keep me accountable for reaching my goals and for content. I’m a big proponent of a good education and accountability. For me, it means I’d rather pay to receive content that is organized, easy to get through and get the motivation to take action. Most people work harder when they’ve made an investment, and I’m one of them.

I’ve learned that I’m a social blogger and enjoy learning, teaching, and socializing more than creating content. I need a lot of hand-holding from a lot of people to make my big vision a reality, and that’s okay. Some people need more support than others.

A Final Note for Inspiration

I have been supporting women bloggers for a year now and I’ve seen plenty of them through the ups and downs. The wins feel greater and the losses feel more bearable because we have each other. I love hearing about their wins and the feelings they have after doing something out of their comfort zone, and I’m so happy to be a part of their journey. We’re all on different paths that look quite different, but we all need community.

I hear from many bloggers that feel unsettled at their growth. Look at where you are and where you started when you need a pick-me-up. Some of us may serve a smaller audience, and that’s okay. It’s not about the numbers, it’s about how we love along our journey. Everything will fall into place for the best when we work out of a place of love rather than fear. In return, your readers will know you care, be more willing to listen and maybe become a fan. Don’t be surprised if you see organic growth as a result of people spreading the word about you because you’re awesome!
